The Top 10 Golf Courses Worldwide

Hundreds of thousands of golfers every year will spend vast sums of money in order to play this sport which they enjoy so many. But not only will they want to play courses close to where they live but around the world if they can afford to as well. In this article we take a look at what some people consider to be the Top 10 golf courses worldwide today.

Course 1 – Cape Kidnappers, New Zealand – Want a course that not only comes with beautiful scenery and is also a challenge to your skills then this one should be considered. Designed by American Architect Tom Doak, this course has views out over the Pacific Ocean and is situated on a 2,000 hectare sheep farm but is suitable for players of all levels.

Course 2 – Royal County Down, Northern Ireland (UK) – This is one of the UK’s more well established and beautiful courses with views out of the Irish Sea. Designed by Tom Morris this course is a real challenge for any golfer especially the 7th and 12th holes.

Course 3 – Pebble Beach, USA – This is one course in the USA that as long as you can pay the green fees will allow you to play on it. This is one of the oldest courses in the USA and was designed by Douglas Grant and Jack Neville more than 90 years ago. The biggest challenge player’s face at this course are the water hazards located around holes 5 to 8.

Course 4 – Leopard Creek, South Africa – This course is like none other in this list of top 10 golf courses worldwide. Along with the more conventional hazards to be found on a golf course this one comes with ones that move. Along with wildlife roaming across the course you need to be extra vigilant at the water hazards. This is where the crocodiles will like to while away a few hours.

Course 5 – Green Monkey, Barbados – This course has been designed by one of the world’s best golf course architects, Tom Fazio. Built on a tabletop landscape it covers a total of 7,400 yards. You may find the first few holes a little uninspiring but when you come to the 9th that when things change. The par 5, 9th requires you to hit the ball 100ft down into a quarry before aiming towards the green whilst towering walls of rock close around you.

Course 6 – Turnberry, Scotland -This is a course that many people don’t consider as it is in the same country where St Andrews is to be found. Yet it is worth considering playing as there are two great courses to challenge your skills on.

Course 7 – Valderrama, Spain – The new course opened in 1985 and is very popular with both amateur and professional golfers from around the world. Located in the Andalucian region of Spain it offers players breathtaking views out over the Mediterranean Sea. All holes are challenging however the 5th offers the biggest challenge of all as it has a two tiered green.

Course 8 – St Andrews Old Course, Scotland – This is not only the most well established and prestigious course in the world it is believed to be the one where the game of golf originated. The course is one designed to be played by golfers of all skill levels and is one that will help improve the way one plays.

Course 9 – Augusta, USA – This course is actually one of the easiest to play in the world but it is the weather which often makes playing this course difficult. The course which opened in 1933 was designed by Alister Mackenzie and Clifford Roberts and is one that all players around the world would like to play.

Course 10 – Ballybunion, Southern Ireland – Want a course that is a challenge but has beautiful scenery this is one to consider visiting. Found in County Kerry, Ireland this course has been situated in the same location since 1893. Today it is considered to be one of the top 10 golf courses worldwide because of the changes made to expand it.
