The Hub Of Your Golf Swing Is Your Head

2010 January 2

OK i know you have all heard this one before “KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN” you can hear it day after day on the golf links been spoken as the golf tip of the century. Please people stop with the intended good advice because you are killing your friends or partners chance of producing a decent golf swing. Head down is not good, head still is much better.

The more you make an effort to keep your head down for the duration of the golf swing, the less chance you have of making the correct turn on the backswing. Your turn will either be restricted by the head position or you will compensate by tilting your shoulders, either way keeping your head down is going to cause serious problems and they just get worse as i hear you screaming to yourself “gotta keep my head down, must keep my head down, please don’t let my head come up again” damn another bad shot !!!! and on and on …

Ok so what should you do i hear you say. It is all so simple really and if you are struggling with your golf swing because you are concentrating on keeping your head down, STOP right now.

An important part of your game should be a good posture which includes your head position. Hold your head up as high as possible when taking up your stance. Obviously make sure you can still see the ball. This will allow you to turn your shoulders properly as opposed to having your head down, and we understand all too well the problem that creates. This new head position is going to let you make a backswing which allows you to keep your head still.

So there you have it. Yet again no magic pill need be taken, common sense prevails in golf and this is one tip you should follow if you want a golf swing that can generate consistent and better ball striking. As with most changes to a golf game you will need to apply this for a while before it becomes second nature to you.

I am in no doubt all golfers who endeavor to keep their head down are doing this in an effort to keep the head still. Which is for sure what you ought to be trying to do. I hope you can now see that keeping your head down is only hindering your progress in becoming a better golfer.
