Can The Cleveland Indians Produce In 2010

2009 was not a good year to be a Cleveland Indians fan. They played horrible and were out of the race pretty early in the season. However, it is not going to take as much as people think to turn it around and the team has made some big changes. Those changes just may be enough to make 2010 a very interesting season.

The Indians have spent all kinds of effort in stockpiling young talent to go into spring training this year. They are going to have plenty of players vying for jobs, and that is a good thing for this ballclub. No player should feels safe after last season. The good news is that fans can expect a huge effort from the younger players that are going to want to make an impression and remain in the show.

The casual baseball fan would look up and down the Cleveland roster and not see many names that they know. This should start to stir excitement because they are looking to put the demons behind them. However, just because these guys are not household names, don’t get the idea that they can’t play.

If we had to pick one player that really looks great it would have to be Shin-Soo Choo. He was nothing special when he first came over from Korea in 2005, but he came into his own the moment he put on a Cleveland Indians Uniform. He played mostly part time his first few seasons, but you could tell that something was brewing.

Finally, in 2008 he absolutely lit it up. He played about 60% of the season, but put up some stats that managers would take from everyday players. Because of that, he found himself in a starting role in 2009 and continued to improve. It would not be a surprise to see him hit well over .300 and launch close to 30 home runs this season.

While the starting pitching is still getting juggled around, we are starting to see some positive things and spring training should be very interesting. Pitchers are going to know that their early performance is going to decide if they are bringing home a MLB paycheck or minor league pittance. That is pretty good motivation.

April is a tight month at home so if you want to see them play, it would be best to get your tickets right away. This team has a really good shot at getting out of the gate quick and cheering fans will get the team just as excited to be on the field and the fans are to be at the game. If it all comes together, this team is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
