The successful baseball team of the Baylor University is known as the Baylor Bears. Currently they are playing in the NCCA Division I college baseball, same as other teams and are controlled by the Big 12 Conference.

The team’s head coach, Steve Smith has been with the Baylor Bears for a period of fifteen years, which goes to show how successful he has been as a coach. The Baylor Ballpark which can hold 5000 fans and spectators is where the Baylor Bears play all their home games.

Green and Gold are the colors of the team’s uniform. There are many other famous teams that are under the control of the Big 12 Conference and they are Kansas Jay hawks, Kansas State Wildcats, Missouri Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

One of the most famous players to ever go to major league from Baylor University was Ted Lyons. Ted was born on December 28, 1900 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. After playing his ball game at the university, he found him self playing his debut for the Chicago White Sox in July 2nd 1923.

Ted was famously known for his switch that he use to do during his batting. The pitcher would never be sure as to whether or not Ted would play left handed or right handed. This was one of the reasons why he was seen to be quite successful through out his entire career. He played for the Chicago White Sox for his entire career which was between 1923 and 1946.

Ted managed to maintain a win loss ratio of 260-230 with an average earned run rate of 3.67 and a remarkable 1073 strike outs which are considered to be great achievements. Although he started as a pitcher he changed his position later on. Ted Lyons later on became the manager of the Chicago White Sox from 1946 to 1948.

Ted made his final appearance as a player on 19th May 1946. One of the highlights of his career was when he was selected to play in the All Star team in 1939 and in the number 16 position for the Chicago White Sox. He received the most prestigious honor by being inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame with a vote of 86.5% from an 8 ballot vote as entry number 1955.

At a time when Ted was peaking in his performance, there was a lot of talk about other teams needing his services for their state. Even while acknowledging his formidable success many felt that he would have faired even better if he had played for the state.

A legend in his own right, Ted Lyons is considered to be the epitome of a successful player for those who enjoy the game. He died in Sulphur, Louisiana on 25th July 1986 at the age of 85.
