Baseball fans in Cleveland, Ohio have been completely able to support their Indians for far more than a century. The Indians, who play within the Central Division with the American League, call Progressive Area, formerly Jacob’s Field, household. In their 109 year background, they have won the Planet Series on two occasions – in 1920 and again in 1948. Their background, although extended and illustrious, has not always been free of controversy. They’ve genuinely upset the persons of Cleveland by not bringing residence a championship in so lengthy. Even with this they still have some extremely loyal fans.
The Identify
The “Indians” received the name as a result with the decision to change it from the Cleveland Blues in 1914. The name, chosen to focus on the nobility of Native Americans, resulted within the team’s nicknames: The Tribe as well as the Wahoos (which pays homage for the mascot, Chief Wahoo).
Success in many forms
Cleveland is generally not thought of like a powerhouse group, but the team has been competitive for much of its history. Furthermore to two championships, the Indians have won the American League pennant five times and seven divisional titles. Hall of Fame players to have worn a Cleveland uniform contain Al Lopez, Joe Sewell and Cy Young. In addition to titles, the Indians have been successful in drawing fans. Within the mid 1990s, they broke records for property game attendance, selling out for more than 450 games. So it’s incredible sometimes that fans will assistance a group even when it can be losing. You have to love the fans of Cleveland.
About that name
Like several sports teams more than the previous decades, the Indians have seen their team identify come under scrutiny. Deemed racially insensitive and politically incorrect by some, there have been protests, calls for boycotts and demands that the group change its name and mascot, and even repent for employing the term “Indians”. This as ridicules as it’s has not caused the team to give up its beloved name.
The Indians organization has refused to cave in to these demands, maintaining that the identify is, was, and will usually be considered a tribute on the indigenous peoples of North America. It doesn’t seem likely that the group will adjust the identify inside near future, and given the Indians’ fabled historical past and strong fan base that is certainly doubtlessly a excellent issue for baseball. And it genuinely is also a quite good factor for all the Indian tribes around the world. The Cleveland group has never done anything to embarrass or cause any tribe of Indians to really feel downgraded. As being a matter of fact if this is the case actually should all the tigers from the globe be upset when the Detroit Tigers take the field. Or maybe the northerners from the US should feel degraded when the New York Yankees take the field. I for one even though I am not a big Ole Miss fan personally have no difficulty with them sporting my heritage. For sir Frankly I don’t give a damn.

2009 was not a good year to be a Cleveland Indians fan. They played horrible and were out of the race pretty early in the season. However, it is not going to take as much as people think to turn it around and the team has made some big changes. Those changes just may be enough to make 2010 a very interesting season.

The Indians have spent all kinds of effort in stockpiling young talent to go into spring training this year. They are going to have plenty of players vying for jobs, and that is a good thing for this ballclub. No player should feels safe after last season. The good news is that fans can expect a huge effort from the younger players that are going to want to make an impression and remain in the show.

The casual baseball fan would look up and down the Cleveland roster and not see many names that they know. This should start to stir excitement because they are looking to put the demons behind them. However, just because these guys are not household names, don’t get the idea that they can’t play.

If we had to pick one player that really looks great it would have to be Shin-Soo Choo. He was nothing special when he first came over from Korea in 2005, but he came into his own the moment he put on a Cleveland Indians Uniform. He played mostly part time his first few seasons, but you could tell that something was brewing.

Finally, in 2008 he absolutely lit it up. He played about 60% of the season, but put up some stats that managers would take from everyday players. Because of that, he found himself in a starting role in 2009 and continued to improve. It would not be a surprise to see him hit well over .300 and launch close to 30 home runs this season.

While the starting pitching is still getting juggled around, we are starting to see some positive things and spring training should be very interesting. Pitchers are going to know that their early performance is going to decide if they are bringing home a MLB paycheck or minor league pittance. That is pretty good motivation.

April is a tight month at home so if you want to see them play, it would be best to get your tickets right away. This team has a really good shot at getting out of the gate quick and cheering fans will get the team just as excited to be on the field and the fans are to be at the game. If it all comes together, this team is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
